Green Party Leader Zack Polanski Faces Heckling at Holborn Hustings Over Zionism Remarks

Green Party leader Zack Polanski, who is Jewish, encountered disruption during a campaign event for the Holborn and St Pancras byelection after asserting that Zionism constitutes a form of racism.

The incident occurred as part of the final hustings for the by-election scheduled for 8 October. Polanski’s comments drew sharp reactions from attendees at the Jewish community event, highlighting the contentious nature of his stance within the campaign.

Meanwhile, Labour’s candidate, Sagal Abdi-Wali, is focusing her efforts on local representation rather than national ambition. The 42-year-old leader of Camden council explicitly rejected suggestions that she seeks to emulate former MP Keir Starmer or pursue the premiership.

Speaking at a café in Primrose Hill, Abdi-Wali emphasized her commitment to the constituency. “All I’ve done, all my life, is be a committed champion for people here,” she stated, referencing her background as a volunteer and councillor.

Her campaign materials consistently reinforce this message of localized dedication, serving as a deliberate contrast to Polanski’s high-profile background. Abdi-Wali insisted that her sole objective is to become the visible, day-to-day representative for Holborn and St Pancras.

  1. Finally, Labour has a candidate who actually lives in the area. Local dedication matters more than national ambition.
