Sagal Abdi-Wali has made her priorities clear as the Labour candidate contesting the Holborn and St Pancras constituency: she is focused entirely on local representation, not national power. When asked during a campaign break at a Primrose Hill cafe in Regent’s Park whether she aspires to succeed former member of parliament and current Prime Minister Keir Starmer, her response was immediate and emphatic.
“No, no, no, no, that’s not at all, in any way, what I’m trying to do,” Abdi-Wali stated. “I’m literally trying to get through the next few weeks and trying to be the member of parliament for this constituency, and that’s all I care about.”
The former Camden council leader emphasized her long-standing connection to the area, positioning herself as a visible and committed local figure. Her campaign strategy appears centered on grounding her platform in community-specific issues rather than broader political ambitions, even as she faces competition from the Green Party in the seat previously held by Starmer.
Can you believe she turned down the top job? That level of dedication is rare these days. Hope she delivers!
Smart move focusing locally. Voters are tired of politicians eyeing the Prime Minister’s chair instead of their streets.
