Anti-migrant activist Daniel Thomas, widely known by his online alias Danny Tommo, has been formally charged in connection with an incident in the English Channel where he was recorded damaging a rubber boat.
The 37-year-old faces accusations of criminal damage, as well as a charge related to failing to provide the personal identification number for his mobile device, according to Hampshire Police. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning.
News of the charges sparked a gathering on Thursday evening outside the police investigation centre in Basingstoke. Several hundred supporters, many dressed in black, assembled just before 18:30 BST. As they stood on the road outside the building, chanting “free DT,” there was widespread belief among the crowd that Thomas was being held inside the facility.
Thomas gained significant public attention following a protest on September 9, 2026, at the Daily Mail offices in South Kensington. Leading a group of men wearing balaclavas, he demonstrated against the newspaper’s publication of details regarding his mother.
