Actor and producer Ricardo Darín recently drew a parallel between Argentina’s national endurance and the resilient bugler character played by Peter Sellers in the comedy film “The Party.” Speaking at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, Darín discussed his latest project, the dark comedy “Therapy Done Right” (“Lo dejamos acá”), which received a special screening before its scheduled global debut on Netflix on October 16.
The film, produced through Darín’s company Kenya Films, follows a pragmatic psychoanalyst portrayed by Darín who loses faith in traditional therapeutic methods and begins pushing boundaries with his patients. The storyline takes a sharp turn when a struggling writer, played by Diego Peretti, enters his practice. Darín collaborated again with director Hernán Goldfrid, who previously worked with him on “Thesis on a Homicide.”
The Party is such a misunderstood classic. Glad Darín brought it up; it perfectly captures that absurd resilience.
Another Netflix release? I just hope the algorithm doesn’t bury this gem. It deserves a proper theatrical run first.
