Meta Unveils New Capabilities for AI Agent Muse at Connect Keynote

Just weeks after its launch, Meta is accelerating the development of Muse, its personal AI agent, signaling a deepening commitment to consumer artificial intelligence. During the company’s Connect event in Menlo Park on Wednesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg declared that Muse has become the centerpiece of Meta’s AI strategy.

Zuckerberg described his vision for the agent to evolve into a “personal superintelligence” utilized by billions to achieve goals and enhance daily life. He emphasized that Meta is making Muse free for a significant volume of tokens, with the intent to generate future revenue through small fees on transactions rather than direct subscriptions.

The keynote highlighted several new features designed to make Muse more integrated and personable. Among the most notable announcements is the introduction of a digital avatar named Jolly. Powered by a new model called Muse Realtime Avatar, this feature will allow users to video chat with their AI agent, giving it a face, body, and voice to facilitate real-time, live conversations. The company also confirmed that Muse will be integrated into Meta’s smart glasses line, activating via a wake word to assist with tasks such as logging meals, booking appointments, and guiding workouts.

Expanding its utility beyond mobile, Meta revealed that Muse will soon operate on macOS. Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang stated that the agent can run desktop applications autonomously, allowing users to delegate complex tasks and walk away while the work continues. Additionally, Muse will receive its own dedicated email address, enabling it to manage threads and handle correspondence independently.

To bolster its e-commerce capabilities, Meta announced strategic partnerships with major retailers including Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair, alongside integrations with Expedia and an upcoming connection to Instacart. The platform now supports payments via Stripe, Shopify, PayPal, and Shop Pay, allowing Muse to access entire product catalogs agentically.

Wang also shared that Meta has opened its platform to developers to build custom connectors, receiving over 1,500 applications within the first week. While specific release dates were not provided, the avatar and Mac integration are expected to roll out in the coming months.

  1. Over 1,500 developer apps in a week? The platform is gaining traction fast, though execution remains the real challenge ahead.

  2. Partnerships with Walmart and Sephora are practical, but I wonder how well it handles real-time inventory errors during checkout.

  3. A digital avatar named Jolly? That sounds charming, but also slightly unsettling. Will this feel natural or just creepy?

  4. Mac automation is the killer feature I’ve been waiting for. Finally, an AI that can actually run desktop apps independently.
