New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart will be sidelined for the rest of the 2026 NFL season following a knee injury sustained during Monday night’s contest against the Los Angeles Rams.
Dart suffered the injury on the opening drive of the game after his left leg bent awkwardly while being tackled by two defenders. Although initial reports suggested a medial collateral ligament issue, an MRI later revealed damage to the MCL, posterior cruciate ligament, and meniscus, according to NFL Network.
Head coach John Harbaugh indicated that diagnostic evaluations were ongoing, though the severity of the injury ultimately ended Dart’s season. The loss is a significant setback for Harbaugh in his inaugural year with the franchise, which opened the campaign with a Week 1 victory over Dallas.
Jameis Winston will assume the starting quarterback role, beginning with Sunday’s matchup against Tennessee. Winston holds a 3-9 record in 12 NFL starts since 2024. During Wednesday’s practice, Winston and practice squad member Jake Haener were the only quarterbacks on the field. Haener, who started one game for New Orleans two seasons ago, secured his spot after journeyman Brandon Allen was released.
The Giants face a challenging path ahead, as their next five opponents possess a combined record of 2-8. Meanwhile, other team injuries were monitored during the open practice session. Edge rusher Brian Burns, who sprained his left ankle in the Rams game, did not participate. However, top receiver Malik Nabers, who had dislocated and reduced his shoulder during the Monday night game, and starting left tackle Andrew Thomas, who exited with a groin issue, were able to take part in the unpadded workout.
