Berlin Brandenburg Airport suspended flight operations on Wednesday evening after a drone was detected on the premises, according to Germany’s DPA news agency. Airport and police officials confirmed the incident, which resulted in a temporary closure of the airspace above the German capital.
The drone was spotted on the airport’s northern runway at 8:00 p.m. local time (1800 GMT). Authorities closed the airspace within minutes, grounding all departures and arrivals for approximately 45 minutes.
Several flights heading to or from Berlin were diverted to Dresden as a precaution. Operations resumed by 9:05 p.m., but travelers faced ongoing delays as the airport worked to clear the schedule.
No injuries or further damage were reported. The investigation into the origin of the drone sighting is ongoing.
