The Greenaway Foundation is staging a charity music festival this Saturday at Crawley Rugby Club, aiming to raise approximately £200,000 to support families facing financial hardship during the holidays. The event, Greenaway Live, begins at 15:00 BST and features performances from live acts donating their time, described by founder Darren Greenaway as a “mini Live Aid.” All proceeds from ticket sales will go toward providing ingredients for two-course Christmas dinners to families in Kent, Sussex, and Surrey.
Greenaway, who established the charity, noted that the demand for assistance has grown significantly, making the fundraising target essential for the season. In addition to supplying meal components, the organization facilitates a wish-list program for children from low-income households, delivering requested presents on Christmas Eve. The foundation anticipates aiding more than 1,000 families in 2026, with Greenaway revealing that some parents become emotionally overwhelmed during the deliveries.
Following the inaugural event in 2025, the second iteration of Greenaway Live will be broadcast via the charity’s social media channels. Reflecting on the project’s growth, Greenaway recalled planning the initial concert while on his honeymoon and expressed satisfaction that the initiative is gaining traction. Organizers are already looking ahead, with preliminary planning underway for next year’s event as community support continues to expand.
