Rabbit, the technology firm known for its recently released R1 gadget, has announced a new standalone artificial intelligence agent that does not require its proprietary hardware to function. As first reported by Wired, the company describes the new platform as an “agentic operating system” called OS3.
While the software runs within the cloud, it is designed to execute tasks locally across personal computers utilizing Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. This marks a significant shift for the startup, aiming to reach a broader audience beyond those who purchased the R1 device.
Users can link up to five distinct devices to a single account, integrating their preferred AI models into the system. According to Rabbit, OS3 is capable of autonomously identifying the necessary devices, files, applications, and AI engines required to finish a given task.
Accessibility to the new agent is flexible; individuals can interact with OS3 through a dedicated desktop website, connect via messaging applications such as Telegram or iMessage, or continue to use it on the original R1 hardware.
Waiting to see how well this handles sensitive local files. Cloud processing always raises privacy flags for me.
