Ella Langley’s hit single “Choosin’ Texas” has officially secured the all-time record for the longest-running number one on the Billboard Hot 100, remaining at the top spot for its 23rd consecutive week. This milestone surpasses the previous benchmark set by Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas,” which held the record with 22 weeks.
Despite Langley’s achievement, the record may prove temporary in the long term. Carey’s 1994 holiday classic is projected to return to the summit in December, potentially reclaiming the all-time title by January. However, with no immediate challengers on the chart, Langley retains a significant cushion. She could further solidify her position by extending her reign before the winter holiday season begins.
The song’s longevity is notable given that it has spent 48 weeks on the Hot 100 in total. While conventional wisdom suggests listener fatigue might set in after such an extended run, the track continues to attract new audiences. In an increasingly fragmented musical landscape, pop radio stations have begun embracing the country smash, drawing in listeners who previously did not follow Nashville music.
Langley’s album “Dandelion” also remains a commercial force, having returned to number one on the Billboard 200 last week. This week, however, it drops to second place following the debut of Jhene Aiko’s “Westside Whimsy” at the top of the album chart.
The artist faces a busy awards season ahead, with the Grammy nominations scheduled for announcement on November 16. Langley is expected to receive significant recognition, potentially bringing country music back into the spotlight of the major categories. Shortly thereafter, on November 18, she will head to Nashville as the leading nominee for the CMA Awards, where she recently secured nine honors.
