Speaking to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced a significant terminology shift in American government records, stating that artificial intelligence would be formally renamed “super intelligence” in all U.S. documents.
Trump used the address to firmly reject international efforts to regulate the technology. He stated that the United States completely opposes any attempt to establish a global framework to control what is currently referred to as artificial intelligence, which he specified would now be called super intelligence.
“The United States also totally rejects any attempt to construct a globality scheme to control for the artificial intelligence being spoken of so much now, hereinafter called super intelligence,” Trump said during his remarks.
Finally, some bold leadership! America should define its own terms and refuse to let others control our technology.
Did he really just say ‘globality scheme’? That sounds awkward. I wonder if his advisors reviewed that speech carefully.
Rejecting global frameworks is risky. AI safety needs international cooperation, not just American unilateral declarations at the UN.
I still prefer ‘artificial intelligence.’ It describes the tool, not its capabilities. This rename is confusing for everyone.
Naming it won’t make it smarter. This feels like pure branding theater, not a serious policy shift.
