Williams Sisters’ US Open Return Ends in Third-Set Tie-break Loss

The long-awaited reunion of Serena and Venus Williams on the US Open court ended in disappointment as the American duo exited the women’s doubles competition in the first round. They fell to the pairing of Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching with a final score of 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (7) in a match that spanned three hours.

Competing in a thunderous Arthur Ashe Stadium, the sisters displayed remarkable resilience, fighting through multiple deficits throughout the contest. Despite their efforts, the victory eluded them in a dramatic conclusion.

The match appeared to be drifting toward a Williams sisters’ victory late in the third set. Coming back from a 1-4 deficit, they established a commanding 5-0 lead in the deciding tie-break. However, they were ultimately unable to close it out, losing six consecutive points to surrender the set and the match.
