They fell to the pairing of Maya Joint and Chan Hao-ching with a final score of 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (7) in a match that spanned three hours.
Competing in a thunderous Arthur Ashe Stadium, the sisters displayed remarkable resilience, fighting through multiple deficits throughout the contest. Despite their efforts, the victory eluded them in a dramatic conclusion.
The match appeared to be drifting toward a Williams sisters’ victory late in the third set. Coming back from a 1-4 deficit, they established a commanding 5-0 lead in the deciding tie-break. However, they were ultimately unable to close it out, losing six consecutive points to surrender the set and the match.
