Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Withdraws from UN Secretary-General Race

Michelle Bachelet, the former president of Chile, has formally withdrawn from the contest to become the next secretary-general of the United Nations. The decision follows a significant drop in her political momentum within the UN Security Council.

Bachelet, 74, revealed her exit through a video message shared on Instagram over the weekend. In her statement, she affirmed that she would persist in her global endeavors with her characteristic resolve.

The withdrawal stems from a recent straw poll within the Security Council, where Bachelet failed to secure sufficient backing among member states. Her departure reduces the field of aspirants to seven as the organization continues its search for leadership.
