Chiltern Railways Joins Wave of UK Rail Nationalisations Under Labour

Chiltern Railways has officially moved into public ownership, marking the sixth major train operator to be nationalised since the Labour Party took power in 2025. The decision brings the government closer to its stated objective of bringing all significant passenger rail services back under state control.

The operator, which manages commuter routes along the Chiltern Mainline connecting London Marylebone and Birmingham, transitioned to public control on Sunday. Government plans indicate that four additional operators are scheduled to follow suit before the end of 2027.
