According to MS NOW White House correspondent Akayla Gardner, security personnel prevented her from entering the grounds after her badge failed to scan at the magnetometer checkpoint. “There was a red beeping light, and so the officer asked me to hand over my badge. He said that it was disabled. I asked why I could not get inside; he said it was above him,” Gardner reported. A photographer with the network also had their credentials confiscated, though one producer managed to gain access.
Trump articulated his decision on social media on Friday, declaring an immediate ban effective against the outlets. He argued that media organizations should not be permitted to disseminate “fiction and lies” while covering the presidency and the administration. During a subsequent Oval Office briefing, the president clarified that no single report triggered the move, but rather a cumulative assessment of their coverage. He further indicated that similar restrictions could soon be applied to the New York Times and the Washington Post.
The three networks have collectively pledged legal resistance. CNN described the prohibition as an unlawful assault on First Amendment rights, asserting that journalists possess a constitutional entitlement to operate without government interference. A representative for Politico echoed this stance, committing to vigorously defend their right to report. MS NOW issued a statement affirming that it would pursue all necessary legal avenues to protect independent journalism and the role it plays in democracy.
