The global population of billionaires reached an all-time high of 3,795 individuals in 2025, fueled by the rapid expansion of the artificial intelligence sector, according to a new report from wealth intelligence firm Altrata.

Altrata analyzed data from 150 publicly listed companies to determine key contributors to billionaire wealth. Maya Imberg, Altrata’s head of thought leadership and analytics, noted that Wall Street’s intense focus on AI has significantly widened the wealth gap within the ultra-high-net-worth community.
The report highlighted the emergence of 29 “superbillionaires”—individuals with net worths exceeding $50 billion. This elite group holds a combined $4.1 trillion, accounting for 27% of all billionaire wealth. For context, Altrata estimates that in 2017, there were only 10 superbillionaires, who represented just 7.2% of total billionaire wealth at that time.
