A 70-year-old man missing for a week during a solo trek on Michigan’s Isle Royale has been found safe, according to the US Coast Guard. Craig Berg was discovered on Saturday, injured and suffering from hypothermia, but remains alert, a statement on the national park’s Facebook page confirmed.
The rescue effort involved a collaborative search by Michigan state police, local officials, and fellow backpackers who assisted in locating the stranded hiker.
Hats off to the backpackers who helped! It’s reassuring to know good Samaritans still step up, even on isolated trails like this one.
Isle Royale is notoriously remote and unforgiving. Did anyone mention how he survived without fresh water for seven days? That surprises me.
