France is grappling with a significant escalation in deliberate fires following an unprecedented wildfire season, with experts estimating that arson accounts for approximately one-third of all forest blazes in the country. The French interior ministry reports that since the onset of the summer, 514 individuals have been detained on suspicion of starting forest fires. Another case involved a 36-year-old man who ignited a paper bag of trash in bushes close to Perpignan. Additionally, a 50-year-old woman faces accusations of setting 17 separate fires in the region south of La Rochelle.
