Rescuers in Nepal have successfully extracted two workers from a hydropower tunnel, nine days after devastating flash floods struck the region. The dramatic rescue offers a rare glimmer of hope in a disaster zone where survival after such an extended period is considered extraordinary.
Despite this success, the situation remains dire for many others. Authorities report that hundreds of additional workers are still unaccounted for, believed to be trapped across dozens of hydropower projects that have been buried by debris and water following the floods.
The ongoing search and rescue efforts are complicated by the extensive damage to infrastructure and the challenging terrain, raising fears that the number of casualties could rise further.
