Instagram Introduces Feature to Add Tagged Posts to Profile Grid

Instagram Introduces Feature to Add Tagged Posts to Profile Grid

Instagram is launching a new tool that allows users to incorporate posts featuring them into their main profile grid, providing greater flexibility over how their profiles appear.

While the update may seem incremental, it addresses a common social media scenario: attending an event with friends and discovering they have already posted a shared photo, tagging you. Previously, reposting the same image was awkward. Now, users can add the tagged post to their grid via the DM notification, directly from the post, or through the Tagged tab. If desired, the post can be removed from the profile grid without affecting its original location or the Tagged tab.

Instagram indicates the feature could also benefit creator collaborations. Creators and brands can highlight content they were tagged in without republishing or using the “Invite collaborators” option, making it easier for multiple creators involved in a campaign to showcase shared content.

This change is part of Instagram’s ongoing effort to enhance user control over profile presentation. In June, the platform introduced a feature allowing users to reorder their grid. Additionally, Instagram has rolled out tools like “First Draft,” which automates video trimming and pause removal, and “Replace Audio,” enabling users to update music in existing posts.

  1. I’m skeptical. Does this encourage clutter, or will people just curate their grid more tightly now? Time will tell.
