Universal Music Group announced Thursday that it is introducing a new artificial intelligence-driven platform enabling users to generate song remixes, mashups, and alternate versions of tracks using its extensive catalog of licensed music. The record label is building the service through a multi-year licensing partnership with ElevenLabs, a firm known for its expertise in AI voice and music synthesis technologies.
Participation in the upcoming platform is optional for artists affiliated with UMG. This initiative represents the latest in a series of AI-related agreements for the music giant, which is simultaneously working on a separate AI music project with Udio and has previously secured licensing deals with major technology companies including Spotify, Nvidia, and Klarna.
Seems like a smart business move, but will the AI actually sound good or just robotic garbage?
I’ve been waiting for something like this since high school. Can’t wait to mash up my favorite tracks legally!
Wait, UMG is doing this AND working with Udio? They really want to control the AI narrative.
Is ElevenLabs going to pay the artists fairly? I hope this doesn’t just exploit voices without consent.
Finally, a legit way to remix without worrying about copyright strikes. This changes everything for hobbyists.
