The Trump administration confirmed on Thursday that excavation for a proposed towering, gilded arch in Washington DC will commence within the next two weeks. The ambitious construction project is currently the subject of a lawsuit, with opponents arguing it will obstruct historic sightlines across the capital.
This initiative is part of a broader series of efforts by the Republican president to establish a lasting legacy in the nation’s capital. Other planned undertakings include the renovation and renaming of the Kennedy Center, the addition of a large new ballroom to the White House, updates to the reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial, and the reconstruction of a golf course in East Potomac Park, which would significantly curtail public access to existing running and biking trails.
