Apple has addressed a longstanding user complaint with iOS 27 by introducing independent volume control for alarms and timers. Previously, adjusting the ringtone volume also changed the alert level for alarms, often leading to oversleeping when users turned down their phone’s volume for calls or notifications.
The new feature is accessible via the Sounds & Haptics menu in Settings. Users can toggle off ‘Match Ringtone Volume’ within the Alarms & Timers section, which reveals a separate slider to set alarm volume independently. This allows ringtone adjustments to no longer affect alarm levels.
The update also allows system alerts and keyboard sounds to have fixed volumes separate from media playback. Additionally, iOS 27 introduces Siri AI improvements and enhanced Liquid Glass interface readability, following user feedback on design changes. While no official release date has been set, a public beta is currently available for those wishing to test the features early.
