A recent glitch in the iOS 27 beta has raised concerns among travelers after several iPhone users discovered their Digital ID passports had disappeared from the Wallet app. The bug, which surfaced on social media platform X, highlights the inherent risks of running pre-release software on primary devices.
Apple’s Digital ID feature, originally introduced with iOS 26 in 2025, allows users to store a digital copy of their passport within the Wallet app to streamline airport security. While the digital credential cannot replace a physical passport for international entry, it is accepted at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints at more than 250 U.S. airports. The feature remains compatible with iOS 27, including the current beta build.
Although the sudden removal of the Digital ID can create significant anxiety for individuals preparing to board flights, Apple indicates the problem is a minor bug rather than a permanent deletion. Users experiencing the issue can restore access simply by re-adding their passport to the Wallet application.
This incident serves as a cautionary note regarding beta software stability. Despite Apple’s claims that iOS 27 delivers substantial performance improvements and speed boosts, the operating system remains unfinished. Early adopters continuing to experiment with features like Siri AI and Liquid Glass interface adjustments are advised to limit beta installations to secondary devices to avoid disruptions to daily essentials like travel documentation.
