Google has entered into a strategic partnership with Flo Health, aiming to provide users with more comprehensive menstrual health insights through its Google Health application. The collaboration will also explore future hardware products that leverage Flo’s proprietary algorithms alongside Google’s expertise in wearable technology and advanced sensors.
Leading the initiative is the integration of Flo’s cycle data into the Google Health app, expected to launch early next year. The feature will be optional, ensuring that no information transfers between the platforms without explicit user consent. Google emphasized that permissions must be granted separately for each data type and purpose, and users retain the right to revoke access at any time. Furthermore, the company confirmed that this synced data will not be utilized for advertising purposes nor sold or shared with third-party developers.
For those who opt in, menstrual data from Flo will appear within Google’s ecosystem alongside other health metrics, while Google health data will simultaneously be accessible within the Flo application. Additionally, subscribers to Google Health Premium will gain access to this information via Google Health Coach, enabling more tailored guidance. Google stated that correlating sleep, daily readiness, activity, and recovery data with menstrual cycle phases offers a clearer understanding of overall health throughout different life stages.
Described as a long-term commitment, the partnership also includes plans to fund research initiatives targeting underserved areas of menstrual health.
It is about time Google took menstrual health seriously instead of ignoring it. Correlating sleep and cycles is genuinely useful.
Skeptical about the ‘no ads’ promise. Big Tech always finds a way to monetize eventually. We’ll have to wait and see.
Wait, does this mean Flo users can see their sleep scores inside Google Health now? Or is the sync one-way initially?
I’m surprised Google is moving this fast on health hardware partnerships. Does this mean a Pixel Watch with better period tracking soon?
Finally, a mainstream option that actually respects privacy and doesn’t sell my cycle data. This is a huge step forward.
