Honey Ross, the daughter of television presenter Jonathan Ross, is currently learning Welsh with support from her partner, YouTuber Gav Murphy. The 28-year-old writer and model has been using the Duolingo application to study the language and practices speaking it with their dog, Coco.

Murphy, 41, originally from Caerphilly, revealed the details during an appearance on BBC Radio Cymru’s ‘Beti a’i Phobol’. The couple, who are based in London, met on Instagram after bonding over a shared passion for cinema.

“We just talked about films for six or seven hours, and we haven’t stopped talking about films since,” Murphy said.

Because opportunities to speak Welsh are limited in their London home, Murphy encourages Ross to practise with their pet. “She lacks confidence when it comes to speaking it. But because I speak Welsh with Coco, I try to get her to speak Welsh with Coco too,” he explained, adding that the dog will not correct any mistakes.

Murphy praised Ross’s “incredible” memory, noting it is a significant asset in her language studies. He also highlighted her background as a feminist campaigner, citing her role in co-founding the Pink Protest movement in 2017 and her efforts to campaign for women’s rights, including tackling period poverty.

Regarding Ross’s famous father, Murphy described their relationship as friendly, noting that both enjoy humour. He said he often asks Ross for anecdotes about Welsh celebrities such as Anthony Hopkins and Tom Jones.
