To ensure a safe purchase, buyers should carefully examine the condition grade of the device, which is typically displayed next to the product image and above the “Add to Cart” button. The highest tier, “Restored Premium,” is reserved for items sold by manufacturers, authorized partners, or Walmart-trusted third parties. These phones are refurbished to meet strict performance standards, featuring excellent screens with only minor micro-scratches and retaining at least 90% of their original battery capacity.
Below that tier, “Restored” devices are inspected and cleaned by authorized partners but come with a lower battery capacity requirement of 80%. These are further categorized into three grades: “Like New” devices have scratches invisible from one foot away; “Good” units show barely visible scuff marks; and “Fair” items exhibit noticeable wear, including scratches that can be felt by touch.
Walmart also offers a pre-owned program for non-refurbished phones, which operates under less stringent quality controls. These items use the same three-tier grading system. Additionally, “Open Box” options are available for devices in excellent condition that remain in their original or generic packaging with accessories included.
Identifying the reseller is equally critical. Most refurbished iPhones are sold by authorized partners rather than major retail brands. Sellers are listed under the “Sold and shipped by” section. Buyers can click on the company name to view contact details, product listings, and customer reviews. While reviews may be mixed, researching the seller independently using the provided contact information can help assess reliability.
Return policies and warranties vary by product and seller. Generally, Restored Premium phones allow returns within 30 days, whereas other Restored tiers offer a 90-day window. Pre-owned purchases are subject to the 30-day return limit. A one-year warranty is guaranteed for Restored Premium iPhones, but coverage for other tiers depends on the individual seller.
