Ohio Democratic candidate for governor Amy Acton was among several people injured on Sunday after an armed individual lunged at her during the Canfield Fair in Ohio.
The incident occurred while Acton was attending the local fair, according to her campaign. Addie Bullock, a spokesperson for Acton, confirmed the details of the attack in a statement released shortly after the event.
“While attending the Canfield Fair, an armed individual lunged at Dr. Acton, injuring multiple people,” Bullock said. “Dr. Acton and Eric are grateful for the swift and decisive action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured.” Bullock was referring to Acton’s husband, Eric Acton.
The spokesperson further condemned the violence, stating, “This kind of violence has no place in Ohio. Dr. Acton will always stand up to the chaos, hate and vitriol that pits us against one another.” Specific details regarding the condition of Acton or the other victims were not immediately available in the initial report.
This remains a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Glad law enforcement responded swiftly. Let’s just hope no one else is seriously harmed.
This feels like the political climate in America is becoming increasingly dangerous for public figures.
Any updates on Amy’s injuries? I hope she recovers quickly.
Who actually attacks a candidate at a county fair? That’s beyond political.
Praying for Amy and everyone hurt. This is absolutely terrifying.
