Illinois State Police are searching for evidence following a reported shooting on the Eisenhower Expressway Thursday night. The incident occurred on westbound I-290 near Austin Avenue, resulting in the closure of all westbound lanes for approximately three hours.
Troopers from Troop 3 were dispatched to the scene at roughly 10:48 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of gunfire on the expressway. Law enforcement officials stated that no injuries were reported at the time of the initial response.
However, all westbound lanes near the Austin Avenue exit remained closed starting around 2:37 a.m. Friday as investigators continued their work. The roadway was fully reopened by 5:50 a.m. Friday. Officials noted it was unclear what specific developments necessitated the extended closure nearly four hours after the initial report.
The investigation remains open and ongoing, with state police indicating they have no further details to release at this time.
Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the shooting or was driving in the area and captured footage on dashcams to come forward.目击者 can contact Illinois State Police Zone 1 by calling 847-294-4400 or emailing ISP.CrimeTips@illinois.gov.
