Exit polls indicate that the Alternative for Germany (AfD) secured a decisive victory in the Saxony-Anhalt state elections, projected to capture more than 44% of the vote. The far-right party has characterized the result as a “historic outcome,” noting that their performance significantly exceeded earlier opinion polling.
Despite the strong showing, AfD leaders acknowledged that final confirmation of their ability to form a government is pending. Securing a parliamentary majority will depend on whether smaller political parties can clear the 5% threshold required to enter the state legislature.
Reports from the party headquarters in Berlin described supporters celebrating the early results as they awaited official counts to determine the composition of the new parliament.
