Xbox Unveils XP Division to Expand Beyond Gaming

In a move to broaden its reach beyond interactive entertainment, Microsoft has announced the creation of a new organizational unit within Xbox known as “XP.” This division will consolidate various non-gaming initiatives, including film and television adaptations, consumer merchandise, live events, and strategic partnerships with creators and brands.

Previously, these diverse projects were managed by separate teams across the company. The new structure aims to streamline efforts under a single banner, allowing for more cohesive development of Xbox’s intellectual properties outside of video games.

According to a blog post by Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball, the XP division formalizes four key areas of investment. The first, titled “Xbox Pictures,” is dedicated to adapting the company’s worlds and characters for film, television, and other linear storytelling formats to engage new audiences. A second area, “Xbox Products,” focuses on developing merchandise that aligns with the brand’s fandom.

The launch of XP signals Microsoft’s increasing commitment to treating Xbox as a multimedia franchise comparable to major entertainment holdings, leveraging existing game libraries to create content across multiple media platforms.
