Man sentenced to life for attempted terrorist attack at Israeli embassy

A 34-year-old man has been handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 20 years after he attempted to breach the Israeli embassy in London to launch a knife attack. Abdullah Albadri was intercepted by armed officers outside the building in Kensington on 28 April 2025.

The Old Bailey heard that Albadri, a national of Kuwait, arrived in the United Kingdom just 16 days prior to the incident on a small boat. He had previously entered the UK via the Channel in August 2021 but returned to France before his asylum claim was resolved.

Prosecutors established that Albadri was motivated by the conflict in Gaza and specifically the death of Palestinians. During the attempted intrusion, he was in possession of two bladed weapons and a handwritten document featuring a verse titled “the benefit of martyrdom.”

The court was told that following his second crossing in April 2025, Albadri stayed in a Basingstoke hotel for three days. He was later informed he did not qualify for housing support due to his pending asylum application and had been living on the streets in the days leading up to the arrest.

He was convicted by a majority verdict on charges of preparing acts of terrorism and possessing bladed articles. This report is a developing story from BBC News.

  1. Another life sentence won’t undo the fear caused. We need better de-radicalisation programs, not just longer prison terms.

  2. Does this mean his asylum claim was still technically pending? I’d love to see what the Home Office says about border security lapses.

  3. Honestly, the ‘benefit of martyrdom’ note is chilling. This shows how quickly online rhetoric can translate into real-world violence.

  4. I wasn’t aware he had arrived via small boat just two weeks prior. The timeline seems extremely rushed for such premeditation.

  5. Twenty years minimum is a heavy sentence. Makes you wonder about the factors driving someone to take such drastic action.
