ITV Studios Unveils 10 New Format Titles at Mipcom, Headlined by ‘The Chase Around the World’

ITV Studios has revealed a robust lineup of 10 new format titles for its upcoming Mipcom presentation, anchored by the international adaptation of its hit game show, “The Chase Around the World.” Alongside the new commissions, the studio also highlighted its major unscripted slate, which features the concluding chapter of the landmark documentary series “7 Up. “

“The Chase Around the World” serves as a global spin-off of the popular UK game show. Produced by Bright Entertainment for ITV, the six-episode series follows six pairs of contestants on a multi-country treasure hunt across Europe. Participants must solve puzzles to locate “The Chasers”—Britain’s top quiz minds—in hidden locations. The winning duo will ultimately compete against the Chasers for a significant cash prize.

Also making its debut on the slate is “Expedition Into the Wild,” a survival reality show that achieved notable success upon its launch on Sweden’s Kanal 5. Produced by ITV Studios Sweden, the 12-episode series saw its first season become the top commercial title in its timeslot, beating averages by 60%. It has already been renewed for a second season. The format places eight celebrity city dwellers in remote wilderness settings for 18 days, armed with only basic tools and limited rations.

Other new additions include “Celebrity Escape,” produced by Perpetual Entertainment for New Zealand’s Three. This six-episode series tasks comedians with navigating themed escape rooms while dealing with interference from a Games Master. In the realm of food entertainment, “Next on the Menu” brings together four contestants who compete to create new dishes for major global brands such as KFC, Taco Bell, and Wagamama. Produced by South Shore for Channel 4, the four-part series tests prototypes on taste, kitchen feasibility, and real customers.

The slate also features “Apocalypse,” a social experiment produced by The Garden and ITV Studios Australia. The eight-episode series sees 16 participants survive for 28 days in an abandoned town devoid of modern utilities. Additionally, “Secret Garden,” narrated by David Attenborough in the UK, returns with five episodes from Plimsoll Studios. The BBC’s biggest new factual series since 2025 explores hidden wildlife behaviors in ordinary gardens.

Other titles include “How to Clean Up for Cash,” a six-part clutter-clearing show from MultiStory Media; the return of “Name That Tune” to UK screens in 2027 after a 29-year hiatus; “The Ultimate Summer Star,” a Danish-Norwegian spin-off featuring 24 celebrities in lighthearted summer challenges; and “The Joy of Pets,” a factual series celebrating human-animal bonds.

In the unscripted documentary sector, ITV Studios is leading with “70 Up,” the final episode of the legendary “Up” series. Produced by MultiStory Media, the two-part special concludes the seven-decade journey of 14 individuals, with Academy Award winner Asif Kapadia taking over direction following the death of Michael Apted.

Julie Meldal-Johnsen, executive VP of global content and content strategy at ITV Studios, expressed pride in the project. “I can’t think of another documentary project that is more ambitious, more far-reaching,” she said. “It is a feat of filmmaking that will be unparalleled. So that brings tears to my eyes every time, and we’re really, really, really proud of that.” She also noted the emotional weight of the series, acknowledging the passing of some participants over the decades.

The studio is also showcasing several other high-profile documentaries. “World’s Wildest Cities,” from Plimsoll Studios, examines urban wildlife in cities like Rio de Janeiro, New York, and London. “Ages of Ice,” narrated by David Tennant and produced by Northern Pictures for PBS and ABC Australia, explores polar exploration and climate change. Additionally, Wonderhood Studios presents “Jesus Christ: The Man, The Mystery,” a historical documentary utilizing archaeological findings, while Curious Films offers “Spy Next Door: The Anna Chapman Story,” detailing the 2010 Russian spy ring arrests.

Meldal-Johnsen described “Jesus Christ: The Man, The Mystery” as a potentially seminal documentary that would appeal to both religious and secular audiences. Regarding “World’s Wildest Cities,” she highlighted its unique approach to natural history, and praised the stunning visuals and three-year production timeline of “Ages of Ice.”

  1. David Attenborough narrating another garden wildlife series? Classic move. I assume Secret Garden will have that signature beautiful cinematography.

  2. Expedition Into the Wild sounds exhausting. Why do I keep watching these celebrity survival shows when it just looks miserable?

  3. The Chase Around the World sounds fun, but I am definitely most excited for the new Name That Tune returning to the UK.

  4. Finally, news about 70 Up! It feels like such a monumental ending to a series that defined documentary TV for decades.
