Residents of Gaza City held a large funeral procession on Sunday for 100 Palestinians whose remains were excavated from the debris of collapsed homes in the Zeitoun district.
Thousands of attendees, including grieving family members, witnessed the burial as the bodies were arranged near the site of the destruction and covered with Palestinian flags.
Local authorities identified the deceased as members of the Rahim, Balawi, Malaka, Qanbour, and Salmi families. According to officials, these individuals were killed when Israeli forces attacked their residences approximately two and a half years ago.
The operation in Zeitoun is part of ongoing recovery efforts in the strip. Recent weeks have seen similar mass retrievals, including more than 100 bodies from the Abu Shariah and Hassaniya families following a single strike, and over 500 victims recovered from the al-Taj Tower site, activists and officials reported.
Data from Gaza’s Health Ministry indicates that at least 73,651 Palestinians have been killed and 174,592 injured since the conflict began in October 2023.
