Google Docs Users Can Add Dark Mode Via Browser Extensions

Users who rely on Google Docs can now access a dark mode interface through browser extensions, bypassing the need for experimental features that have yet to be officially integrated into the application. Options such as Google Docs Dark Mode, available in the Chrome Web Store, provide a straightforward solution, while alternative tools like DocsAfterDark cater to Firefox users.

Installing the free extension automatically applies a dark theme when working within Google Docs. To adjust preferences or turn off the feature, users can click the puzzle piece icon located near the search bar in the top-right corner of the browser. This menu allows individuals to disable the mod entirely or customize specific visual settings, including sepia tone, contrast, grayscale, and brightness levels.

Additionally, the extension is designed to automatically revert to standard viewing modes when documents are prepared for printing, eliminating the need for manual toggling between light and dark states during document production.

  1. The auto-revert for printing is a game-changer. No more fighting the interface before sending to the office printer.

  2. I’m skeptical about third-party extensions modifying official tools. What about data privacy concerns?
