Kyiv’s Northern Bridge was hit during a Russian air attack on Saturday, according to city Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The strike followed an active drone alert, though emergency responders confirmed there were no injuries.
“Emergency services are heading to the scene,” Klitschko stated on Telegram. He noted that the attack damaged the road surface and trolleybus wires, resulting in a complete blockade of traffic flowing from the left bank to the right bank.
This incident represents the latest escalation in Russia’s targeting of critical infrastructure in the Ukrainian capital. Over the preceding two days, the Southern Bridge across the Dnipro River was struck multiple times by drones, causing significant disruption and lengthy traffic jams throughout the city.
Kyiv relies on a network of eight bridges to connect its western and eastern banks along the Dnipro River. Since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Moscow has frequently conducted overnight drone campaigns against the capital.
Last week, Ukraine accused Russia of initiating a winter bombing campaign specifically aimed at power supply facilities. While Moscow has previously denied systematically targeting civilian infrastructure, the recent attacks on major transport links have intensified logistical challenges for residents.
