Schwartz’s Deli Switches to Local Soda After Years of Supply Struggles

One of Montreal’s most iconic delis, Schwartz’s, has discontinued the American-made black cherry soda that has accompanied its sandwiches for decades. The establishment recently announced it will no longer serve the beverage, which was produced in the United States.

The decision follows an eight-year period of difficulty in maintaining a consistent supply of the cola. Distributors had reduced production levels, citing the escalating costs of aluminium as the primary factor behind the scarcity.

Although the deli initially anticipated only temporary shortages, the cans ultimately disappeared from their menu entirely. In response, Schwartz’s has transitioned to a locally produced alternative.

According to reports, customers have largely accepted the change, embracing the new domestic offering despite the loss of the traditional import.
