UN peacekeeping chief credits US as key partner despite $3 billion debt

Speaking to FRANCE 24, UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix described the United States as a highly important collaborator, noting that American contributions remain vital despite the country owing approximately $3 billion in peacekeeping assessments.

The remarks come as the UN is compelled to reduce its operational capacity by roughly 25 percent due to financial constraints. Lacroix defended the cost-effectiveness of these missions, pointing out that they account for only 0.2 percent of global military expenditure.

“Peacekeeping is a good deal really,” Lacroix stated, emphasizing the value of the organization’s efforts relative to worldwide defense spending.

4 responses to “UN peacekeeping chief credits US as key partner despite $3 billion debt”

  1. Peacekeeping is definitely a bargain, but the debt situation makes this partnership feel less like a collaboration and more like a favor.

  2. 0.2 percent of global military spending? That is an incredibly strong argument for why we should fund these missions.
