French Students Continue School Blockades in Nationwide Protest Movement

High school students throughout France sustained their campaign of blocking school entrances on Thursday, continuing a form of civil disobedience designed to disrupt the start of academic days.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez reported that 625 individuals, predominantly students, were taken into custody during similar blockade attempts on Wednesday. Nuñez highlighted that the protests are expanding in scope and participation.

The demonstrations have drawn attention to the specific grievances driving the youth-led movement, as covered by FRANCE 24’s Tanishk Saha.

  1. My nephew is involved. He says teachers support them privately but can’t show it publicly. Quite a complex situation.

  2. Wow, I had no idea the movement was expanding this quickly. The scale is surprising compared to previous years.

  3. Are we sure these blockades are actually solving anything? It feels like performative protest without clear policy demands.

  4. I respect their courage, but blocking entrances disrupts everyone’s day. Is this the most effective way to be heard?

  5. 625 arrests is a huge number for high schoolers. The government seems overly aggressive in handling these protests.
