Tennessee Inmate Christa Pike Survives Lethal Injection Execution Attempt

Christa Pike, a death row inmate convicted of killing a schoolmate three decades ago, survived a lethal injection execution attempt late Wednesday, according to prison officials. The incident prevented Tennessee from carrying out its first execution of a woman in two centuries.

Her current medical condition remains unknown. It is also unclear what legal steps her attorneys or state prosecutors will take after she was transported for medical treatment from the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville.

  1. It’s terrifying that we are still discussing capital punishment in 2024. The focus should be on rehabilitation, not these botched attempts.

  2. Three decades for this? The justice system seems incredibly slow. I just want to know if she is actually going to survive the procedure.

  3. This is genuinely shocking. I had no idea Tennessee hadn’t executed a woman in two hundred years. What happens next legally?
