The complete text of the artificial intelligence safety agreement, described as “morally binding,” has been released following President Trump’s announcement yesterday. The accord requires major technology firms to oversee their own AI development standards.
Officially named the Joint Commitment On Frontier Responsibilities, the document was published online by David Sacks, a tech founder who also serves as a presidential advisor. The pact bears signatures from chief executives at six of the industry’s most prominent companies: Sundar Pichai of Google, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Greg Brockman of OpenAI, Elon Musk of xAI, and Jensen Huang of Nvidia.
In the statement, the signatories emphasized collective accountability. “In order to build a positive future for the American people and the world, we believe every company is responsible for developing…” the commitment states, outlining the framework for industry-led regulation.
Does anyone actually trust these companies to police themselves? Feels like giving the fox the keys to the barn while pretending it’s for safety.
Morally binding? That’s just a polite way of saying there are no real consequences. I hope people see through this self-regulation theater.
