According to the bureau, modeling conducted by air traffic control operators at the time indicated that fatigue risks for staff were elevated during the period of these major events. A subsequent review found that rates of runway incursions and near misses were approximately 20 percent higher than the national average.
The findings have intensified scrutiny on operational conditions at Australia’s busiest airport, with regulators looking closely at whether adequate staffing levels were maintained during the summer months.
