Bose has begun integrating Auracast broadcast audio capabilities into its premium headphones, marking a significant step toward improved accessibility for listeners. The company released a firmware update for the $449 QuietComfort Ultra Headphones Gen 2, introducing Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast support as beta features. These flagship models represent the first Bose products to adopt the audio-sharing technology, with plans to extend compatibility to additional devices in the near future.
While several major electronics manufacturers have introduced Auracast-enabled audio products, the list remains relatively small. Competitors such as Sony, JBL, Samsung, and Sennheiser have released select headphones or earbuds featuring the technology, and Sennheiser has also launched a dedicated Auracast transmitter this year. Smaller brands like EarFun have similarly joined the ecosystem.
However, Bose’s entry into the Auracast space is notable given the company’s prominence in the audio industry. By prioritizing accessibility through broadcast audio sharing, Bose aims to make public venues and events more inclusive for users with hearing impairments, aligning with broader trends in consumer electronics toward universal design.
