30 Killed in Russian Missile Strike on Buses in Kramatorsk, Ukraine Says

Ukrainian authorities reported on Thursday that a Russian attack targeting two passenger buses in the city of Kramatorsk has left at least 30 people dead and 18 others injured. The incident occurred in the eastern Donetsk region, near the active front line.

The Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office confirmed the final casualty figures on Telegram on Thursday morning. Earlier reports had indicated a lower death toll of 12 with 14 wounded, but the numbers were later revised upward as rescue operations continued.

Regional Governor Vadym Filashkin stated that public transportation services in the area have been suspended immediately following the strike. He accused Russian forces of intentionally aiming at civilian transport to maximize casualties.

“For them, a bus with passengers is an attractive target precisely because one strike can kill as many people as possible,” Filashkin said. “Russia deliberately disregards all conceivable rules of warfare and the norms of international humanitarian law. It chooses targets where it can cause the most pain to civilians.”

Emphasizing the immediate danger to residents, the governor added that authorities could not risk the lives of passengers or drivers under such circumstances. He stated that the safety of citizens in both Kramatorsk and the nearby city of Sloviansk is now the top priority.

Kramatorsk serves as a critical military logistics hub for Ukrainian forces and is part of a heavily defended eastern defensive belt. The city is located close to the front lines in the Donetsk region, which Russia claims to have annexated. Russian troops have been advancing toward the city’s eastern outskirts, prompting officials to urge remaining civilians to evacuate to safer zones.
