The benefits are not distributed evenly across the industry. Flatbed and heavy-haul segments have seen the most pronounced gains, with spot rates climbing to multiyear highs this summer and capacity becoming increasingly tight. Moreover, the location of data centers is reshaping traditional freight lanes. Because site selection depends on power availability and land costs, much of the new freight is moving into markets that were not historically major freight hubs. “This reshapes routes as much as it adds volume,” Brennan said.<\/p>\n

Beyond drivers, there is heightened demand for diesel technicians, fleet maintenance professionals, and logistics personnel to handle heavy equipment, transformers, generators, and cooling systems. Smaller trucking firms are also capitalizing on the trend, according to Jennifer Lockett, freight factoring operations manager at altLINE. These companies are finding new opportunities hauling massive transformers and construction materials, allowing them to expand into new lanes and customer bases. However, Lockett warned that scaling operations requires additional trucks, drivers, and equipment, which can strain cash flow.
