US President Donald Trump has announced that his peace envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will travel to Kyiv and Moscow this weekend carrying a “proposal to end the war.” The move represents the latest diplomatic effort to break the stalemate in the conflict.<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump expressed optimism about the mission. “I sent Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, two great negotiators. They’ve done a great job, and we sent them over to see whether or not we can get something done. And there may be a good chance that we’ll do it,” he said.<\/p>\n
The envoys are scheduled to arrive in Moscow on Saturday before heading to Kyiv on Sunday. This will mark their first visit to the Ukrainian capital since Trump returned to the White House last January.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the upcoming trip on X, stating, “We need to look for real options for how to move this war toward an end. We will see what proposals Steve and Jared bring and what they are told in Moscow in response.”<\/p>\n
Zelenskyy also addressed security concerns, noting that Ukrainian forces would ensure the “normal functioning of Russian airspace” to allow the envoys safe passage. This marks a temporary pause in hostilities, following warnings Zelenskyy issued earlier in the week that Russian airspace would effectively close due to extensive Ukrainian drone operations.<\/p>\n
“We are looking out for them, not for Russia. There will be no air strikes from our side, and Russia must do the same, ensuring there are no air strikes from its side for the time needed to hold these talks and handle the logistical matters related to this American visit,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media.<\/p>\n
The diplomatic push comes amidst continued violence. Local authorities reported that Russian strikes on the city of Kamianske in the Dnipropetrovsk region killed four people overnight and injured five others, hitting an industrial facility.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Zelenskyy revealed that a Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) in central Kyiv on Friday.
