Nigel Farage has announced a “memorandum of understanding” with France’s National Rally party aimed at halting small boat crossings in the English Channel. Developed during a conference, the political document could evolve into a binding legal agreement if both parties secure power in their respective countries.<\/p>\n
Under the terms of the proposal, the United Kingdom would intercept vessels that depart from French shores and enter British territorial waters, returning all individuals on board to France. In exchange, France has agreed to ordinarily accept these individuals and repatriate them to their home countries in line with French expulsion laws.<\/p>\n
During a press conference, Farage addressed concerns regarding the use of the word “ordinarily,” which some interpreted as allowing for exceptions. He dismissed the criticism as merely “legalese” and argued that the deal removes the financial incentive for people smugglers. “In very, very short order the business model is broken,” he stated.<\/p>\n
