Northampton chairman Kelvin Thomas confirmed that a consortium led by former Brazil international Roberto Pato has received regulatory approval to invest in the club. The announcement marks a significant milestone after a thorough review process.<\/p>\n
“This has been a detailed and rigorous process, involving significant scrutiny of the proposed investment, the ownership structure, financial sustainability, and the suitability and financial standing of those involved,” Thomas said.<\/p>\n
The successful completion of both the Impact and Sustainability Test (IST) and English Football League (EFL) processes provides what Thomas described as “further confidence in the proposed investment and the foundations being put in place for the club’s future.”<\/p>\n
Thomas praised both the EFL and the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) for their professionalism and thoroughness throughout the respective regulatory processes.<\/p>\n
He highlighted that the consortium members bring diverse backgrounds and genuine passion for football, with several investors already having visited Northampton, spent time at the club, and attended matches to familiarise themselves with the organisation.<\/p>\n
The group offers a strong blend of football, corporate and financial expertise, along with significant Brazilian representation that Thomas hopes will bring “a little Brazilian excitement and flair” to the club.<\/p>\n
With regulatory processes now complete, the club will move towards finalising documentation and completing the investment. Full details regarding the investment structure and principal investors involved will be announced upon completion.<\/p>\n
