AR Content, Vertigo Entertainment, and Blumhouse Atomic Monster have joined forces to produce an English-language remake of “Vincent Must Die,” the critically acclaimed French-Belgian horror-thriller that premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight sidebar. The project was made exclusive to Variety.<\/p>\n
The remake will be written and directed by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, marking his feature directorial debut. The veteran screenwriter and producer is known for hits including “Orphan,” “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” “Aquaman,” and “Insidious: Out of the Further.” The original French-Belgian film was scripted by Mathieu Naert, Dominique Baumard, and St\u00e9phan Castang.<\/p>\n
Producing the project are AR Content’s Alexander Rodnyansky alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment and Michael Clear of Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with Michael Kupisk also producing for AR Content. Stuart Manashil will executive produce. AR Content optioned the film from Goodfellas, which will also serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n
In “Vincent Must Die,” ordinary man Vincent (played by Karim Leklou) suddenly finds himself under physical attack from anyone who makes eye contact with him. The film, which also stars Vimala Pons and Fran\u00e7ois Chattot, earned a Cam\u00e9ra d’Or nomination at Cannes and received C\u00e9sar Award recognition for best first film as well as Lumi\u00e8re Award nods for best first film and best actor.<\/p>\n
Variety described the original as “a witty, grimy, timely parable for our paranoid and persecuted era.” Castang’s genre-bending thriller has drawn widespread critical praise for its satirical take on horror conventions.<\/p>\n
