Harriet Dart and Francesca Jones have exited the US Open in the second round, ending Britain’s hopes in the singles draws. Both players fell to seeded opponents on Thursday, leaving no Britons remaining in the main event.<\/p>\n
Dart, who competed in difficult conditions with temperatures reaching approximately 30C in New York, suffered a 6-2 6-2 defeat to Czech 25th seed Marie Bouzkova. The British player indicated she felt unwell during the match.<\/p>\n
Jones, who became the last Briton standing after Dart’s exit, battled through a humid contest before losing 6-4 6-4 to 14th seed Iva Jovic. The 18-year-old American, ranked significantly higher than Jones, controlled the early stages of the match with deep baseline hitting. Despite Jones saving three match points on her own serve, Jovic secured victory in one hour and 54 minutes.<\/p>\n
The results meant that only Jacob Fearnley managed to win a set among the five British players who reached the second round. Fearnley fell in four sets to 27th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry, while qualifier Toby Samuel was ousted by 18th seed Jiri Lehecka. Katie Boulter had already been eliminated in straight sets by Wimbledon runner-up Karolina Muchova in just 58 minutes.<\/p>\n
In the men’s draw, all four British representatives\u2014Cameron Norrie, Arthur Fery, Harry Wendelken, and Jan Choinski\u2014were knocked out in the first round.<\/p>\n
